Quick Extinguishment Saves Borough Residence (1-17-07)


At 1600 hours, the department along with mutual aid companies were dispatched to the 500 block of Madison St. in the borough for a reported chimney fire. Within minutes, borough FM Templin arrived on scene and reported a working fire. TW7 and E7 arrived together and found a fire in the rear of the residence. Heavy smoke was noticed issuing from the rear and the ridge vents of the roof. E7 crew quickly deployed 2 attack lines and found the fire in the B/C corner of the building with the fire extending upward into a crawl space A very quick and aggressive knockdown by Engine 7's crew prevented this fire from taking a large portion of the building. Tower 7's crew laddered the roof and removed the ridge vent for ventilation and to check for extension. Mutual aid companies on scene included Kulptown, Monarch, Mount Penn, Reiffton, and Southern Berks EMS.
